Low Animal are homies for time. When my band Vypers was just starting up in Niagara, Low Animal(Matt Davis and Damien florio) let us play with them, and tour with them, and put up with our drunk bullshit. Then we stole their drummer and now Damo has to deal with us us ALL THE TIME. Northern Us is a heavy roots banger and has such a sick drum beat in the hook.

about

This is the first release by Sepsis Record Club. A collection of songs about crippling despair by my friends. Enjoy.

1. Horrific Vision is a project by sonic punisher John Watson, who you'll all know from Toronto goth psych bands Brenda and Gloin. In this leviathan of an opening track he mostly samples Silent Hill boss battles over top destructive low-register synth squacks. its a hell of a way to start and I can't wait to hear more from this project.
2. Austin Nops Whileaway is the founding member of grungy glam band The Effens. He continually, tirelessly upholds a standard for DIY music production under his label Lootbag Records, and he's the inspiration for this mixtape. This song is just like all his other ones; Fucking awsome and too short.
3.Scratch is a project by Denholm Whale who you'll all know as the archetypical skinny guy behind the synth in Odonis Odonis. Or you'll know him as one of the best promoters of cool music in Toronto. On this track he is joined by his partner Juliana Carlevaris of Hot Garbage acclaim. She's also really cool.
4. Olga is a project by Nic Waterman who is also the proud new owner of Sepsis Record Club, the curator of this mixtape and the person writing this sentence. I did a Marilyn Manson cover and I think it's dope. Fuck anybody who dismisses that guy. He's the pop star that will never be allowed to happen again. And yeah that's right, I used my girlfriend's credit card to set up a bandcamp label so I can put out cheap, done-in-one-night Marilyn Manson Covers, so expect like at least 6 more in the coming weeks. AND I'm gonna use her credit card again to buy facebook and instagram ad space and promote the shit out of this fake ass label because thanks to being a Canadian with a mailing address during the end of the world i have nothing but government money, time, and bootlegged Logic Pro. Enjoy.
5. In stark contrast to Olga's trite contribution The World As a Loose Garment is a serious track; atemporal, haunting, and beautiful.
All equally as true of it's creator Idious Carrie, or Desiree Das Gupta who you'll know as one of the creative pinnacles of the undefinable weirdo collective Kaleidoscope Horse. This is the track I've probably listened to the most during this process, and it makes me feeeeeeel thiinggs. Bill Bembridge, Idious's brilliant partner in everything produced this song beautifully and i'd like to thank you Bill for your pin-drop thoughtfulness in producing this track because this shit wouldn't read if it was a cellphone recording.
6. Ingø is Alastair Cavanagh's fluid file folder of songs that don't fit into his many other projects. He was one of the creative forces behind the much-more-than-shoegaze band Fourth Way, and now he's focused his sites on turning the Niagara garage-rock outfit Strange Shakes into a jangle-pop band, like the just and necessary horseman of the garage-rock apocalypse that he must be.
I met this guy like a decade ago when he was 15 and way better at guitar than me. I see him as a friend that i'll probably still be calling up to walk me through simple computing functions when I'm 68 years old.
7. I don't know what to say, It's a sick Kinks cover by Paul Jacobs. you know who he is and what he does, and if you don't then figure it out, Iggy Pop did...
8. Which brings us to the second long form noise track. There's like 3 of them on this mix tape and aside from all being great standalone pieces they serve as agents of upheaval to the whole. This 6 minute to the millisecond cacophony by the Debauched Orchestra ushers in the darkest act of the show.
Debauched Orchestra is the electric violin and sample based noise project of sadist Lester Lester. This is perhaps the most punishing of all his projects, (and this is a dude who serially participates in the creation and destruction of a butt load of super punishing acts every week). Flem, Jockstrap, and yes, Punisher are among the fast-burning, broke up before you heard their first single punk bands that max has belonged to, but for luck or fate, Debauched Orchestra endures. So now you gotta endure this track, it's sick.
9. Trick Casket, this shit is gnarly man. I've known Connor Lex Grant since high school when we were just two emo kids hangin out at the mall. Even though we've integrated into very different scenes since then ive always paid attention to this dude's music. He delivers on the goth, and he knows how to make a beat.
10. Mikhaylo is a "dork Tekno" project by Mike Gontmakher. In the trend of power couples on this thing, Mikhaylo is Debauched Orchestra's other half and it shows in both their music. This track is hollow as fuck.
11. WAHL is the synth wave project of Jamez Townsend. It's Dark and spacious and nostalgic for old slasher movies and Stephen king paperbacks. I had the pleasure of being in the room and seeing Jamez's first musical endeavour come to fruition, and I think I even contributed a few snare fills to this track.
12. Fabian oblivian (Fabian Kearns) is one of the forces behind Batcave era-esque post punk outfit Laurie. This is his solo project in a very similar vein. razor-sharp beats on this one.
13. Bungalow Jonathon is the new synth pop project by ex-Jean Daddy frontman Cob J Antonitus. This song is an 80s ballad about living and loving on the internet.
14. These are my parents! Ellen Watermanan is an ethnomusicologist as well as a documenter, researcher, and performer of improvised music. Michael Watermanaterman is a practicing sound installation artist, and an early pioneer of the radio sound collage medium (check out his long standing, radio based noise band Mannlicher Carcano - named after the gun that killed JFK, best band name ever, thanks for ruining everything dad).
Together they recently incepted Pama, and Map is a thoughtfully sombre flute and synth improvisation to lead us into the last act of the mixtape - the chill act.
16. Cameron Kirk is a staple of the Toronto music scene. His latter-day no wave band Your Grandad is the pinnacle of effortless, sardonic cool. And his solo stuff, although much more chill, brings that same attitude. He's sort of like Toronto underground music's more well-read Bart Simpson.
17. Mom? Dad? is a withering lo-fi acoustic project by Androo Devin Leipurts. This mixtape is about crippling despair and Rot is I think the epitome of that sentiment.
18. Here's another track by me lol. It's an old demo for an old project.
19. Fraser Wayne is a sonic troubadour. You'll know him as the founding and only consistent member of the Montreal Psych collective The Fuzzy Undertones. He's been super prolific of late putting out multiple full lengths under the eponymous Fraser Wayne. He's reaching muddier, synthier heights these days, occupying an almost Nick Cave/Alan Vega space. some call him the space cowboiiiiiiii
20. Mischa Ohoskia is an amazing songwriter, the bass player in my band, my former roommate of 4 years, and one of my best friends and co-collaborators. I'm so happy he's finally releasing this track that he recorded like a year and a half ago. He has until now infuriatingly refused the people what they want, and you want Pass On Me. Recorded by the illusive Roy(the non-murderous Phil Spector of our day) it's a mournful doo wop ballad, a thing of shimmering lachrymosity.
21. Lia Braswell is kind of the rock star on this list. She's most known for her work in Trust, and the legendary A Place To Bury Strangers. We met recently while escaping from New York and rushing to the border to try and beat the lockdown, so I convinced her to put a song on this mixtape and it's beautiful. She doesn't think it's dark enough for this record but i beg to differ.
22. Nadia Pacey's project John Michigan is intense, like all her projects. You'll know her as the enigmatic front woman in Deux Trois, a band that has blown me away so many times live. She channels some true Patty Smith/Laurie Anderson stage power and her solo project although very different from Deux Trois has that same power coursing through it. It's the last track on the Album because it in it's self is an epic pocket symphony with independent but corresponding acts.
Goodnight, and good luck. This is Sepsis Record Club signing off.
